Technidyne seminar

On the 24th of February Poly-Test Instruments and Technidyne Corporation gave a seminar at the SAPPI Technology Centre. The lectures were given by Tom Crawford with additional technical support by Roger Ginter and Michael Conlon The seminar was well attended and a variety of topics pertaining to the measurement and control of the optical properties of paper were discussed. Specific subjects such as brightness, whiteness, fluorescence, opacity and gloss were covered together with the various International standards and calibration.

During the rest of the week Gauteng Metrology Services, Poly-Test Instruments sister company, underwent an additional training course to support the existing instruments in the field as well as those anticipated to be sold in the future.

NEW APPOINTMENTS

New Ichikawa rep for Devden

Devden (Pty) Ltd is the agent for Ichikawa GmbH Europe’s South African market.
Ichikawa Inc. Japan is one of the "big three" in shoe-press belt supply, worldwide. Wataru Naraba has spent the last three years working with Devden to launch the Ichikawa shoe-press belts in South Africa, with great success. Wataru is now moving on to a new challenge in Italy and France, and Devden would like to thank him sincerely for his support for both the company and their South African customers during his time here.

Arthur van Keeken will take over the South African market from July 2009. Arthur joined Ichikawa in 2005, from SK Roermond Paper, where he had spent six years in Process and Production, gaining valuable knowledge and experience which he now brings to our market. He looks forward to building on the excellent results achieved here in South Africa.

2009 Flexible Packaging – Trends and Technology  Developments Symposium

13-14 November, New Delhi, INDIA

In recognition of India being one of the emerging leaders in the flexible packaging industry, The 2009 Flexible Packaging Symposium will be held in India for the first time. The symposium will be designed for professionals from all areas of the flexible packaging and converting industries.
Abstracts on the following topics will be accepted:

í²ƒ New Trends in Flexible Packaging and Market Applications
í²ƒ Retort and Aseptic Systems and Material Applications
í²ƒ Environmental Issues and Recycling Technologies
í²ƒ New Materials and Equipment Development
Authors interested in presenting at the symposium are invited to submit abstracts or technical papers to IndiaPLACE@TAPPI.org by 30 June 2009. The Technical Program Committee will review all submissions in July and will respond to all authors shortly thereafter.

The TAPPI PLACE Division is made up of hundreds of technical professionals working in flexible packaging, laminations, adhesives, coatings, and extrusions. TAPPI is the leading technical association for the worldwide pulp, paper, packaging, and converting industries. Through access to knowledge and access to networks TAPPI helps members work smarter.

Paper, Film & Foil Converters’ Association is an all India body representing various sectors manufacturing packaging material both in flexible and folded carton sectors and manufacturers of basic inputs to the packaging industry. Established in 1965, as All India Paper and Allied Products Manufacturers’ Association, the same was renamed in 1995 as Paper, Film & Foil Converters’ Association (PFFCA).

The South Indian Education Society (SIES) is one of the oldest educational societies in Mumbai and was pioneered in 1932. SIES-SOP (School of Packaging) endeavors to groom professionals dedicated to the cause of developing packaging that is functionally efficient with quality parameters conforming to the international standards, while being cost effective and environment friendly.
