FEATURE: SULZER Pump

Application Report
LCA Pump Pumping Recycled Fiber to Roll Press

Recycled fiber from the screening plant is thickened in a disc filter and pumped further to a roll press at 8 % consistency. It is at this consistency that the roll press operates optimally, and yields an approx. 30 % outlet consistency before the recycled fiber is hot dispersed. In this case the consistency of stock coming from the filter is approx. 10 to 12 %, so it is diluted on the screw conveyor before it enters the dropleg of the pump. It is not economical to pump this thick stock with conventional stock pumps, nor is this possible because of the high air content in the stock.

The pump selected was an LCA pump which is designed for economical pumping of recycled fiber in particular at 6 to 10 % consistency.

The design of the LCA pump stems from the long experience gained from MC® pumps. In this application, a separate degassing system is not required in the LCA pump; a degassing valve will be sufficient .

Process Advantages

• Designed especially for recycled fiber at a consistency range of 6 to 10 %.
• Low power consumption.
• Suitable for variable speed control.
• High heads are attainable even with direct drive.
• Special design of the pump allows large consistency variations.
• Degassing can be arranged by means of a separate degassing system similar to an MC® pump or by means of a degassing valve.
• Efficient fiber separation prevents fibers from entering the degassing system.
• A simple liquid level transmitter is used for level measurement.
• Simple controls.
• The efficiency of other process equipment following an LCA pump improves since air in the stock is removed already in the pump.

Product Advantages

• Pump design is based on the reliable basic design of MC® pumps.
• High degree of standardization between LCA and MC® pumps.
• The direction of the discharge flange can be selected for each individual application, either the right, left or upwards. • Easy maintenance.
• Single or double mechanical seal.
• The dropleg of the pump only consists of the so-called dropleg adapter, to which the stock inlet pipe can be mounted
