ABSTRACT

Virgin fiber pulp mills have increasingly based their production on fresh eucalyptus and acacia from plantations close to the mill site. This trend has brought new challenges to the debarking process, i.e. how to get rid of tough, stringy bark in the chips and how to reduce the wood losses due to fragile wood species. Metso Paper has developed a revolutionary process improvement, GentleBarking (pat. pending), to eliminate these quality problems in handling expensive pulp mill raw materials.
